Starro Escapes From somewhere In A new Clip From The suicide Squad
August 25, 2022At the time of this writing, we are less than one week away from the premiere of The suicide Squad by James Gunn. While we were unfortunately unable to make the pre-screening of this film, all the other reviews shower praise on Gunn and the cast, especially Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. So, while we wait with you until this movie hits theaters and HBO Max, Warner Bros. is definitely pushing this film very hard in the marketing. In fact, the latest clip they released is both amazing and a deeply disappointing. In the clip, we get an up-close look at Starro the Conqueror as he escapes from some sort of prison in what appears to be the final act of The suicide Squad movie.
Yet, I have mixed feelings about this, and I will explain why. However, if you want to watch this movie without some major spoilers, skip both the clip and this article (at least, until after you’ve seen the movie). I will just say that we don’t see DC Comics fans’ favorite monocular starfish any more than we did in the earlier trailer. The reveal of the live-action Starro (what a time to be alive) will likely only truly come in the film itself.

How The Starro Escapes Clip From The suicide Squad Spoils much of the Film

First, as a lifelong fan of comic books, I cannot express enough how excited I am that a character as powerful and utterly ridiculous as Starro is in a big-budget DC Comics feature. Sure, he’s a weird giant star-shaped creature, but this is a character who’s able to take down the Justice League. So, this clip serves as a nice tease to that moment in comic book movie history. Yet. This clip also spoils a big chunk of The suicide Squad, especially for people who watch all of the trailers and behind-the-scenes clips. because the headline from this clip in The suicide Squad movie is not that Starro escapes from somewhere, but rather that not much of the squad is left when he does.
It is very possible that characters like John Cena’s Peacemaker and Nathan Fillion’s The detachable kid are off on some other mission when this moment takes place. But, since director James Gunn said that we shouldn’t get “too attached” to the cast, that’s probably not the case. No, what this clip shows us is that Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, Harley Quinn, and Bloodsport are the characters who make far enough into Act III for Starro to get out. This means that the rest of the characters in this very large ensemble cast like meet their ends before this moment.
Marketing spoiling films is not a problem unique to The suicide Squad. The Black Widow trailers all showed Natasha falling through the air in a giant cloud of debris along with scenes of her standing on the ground amid smoking wreckage. Essentially, her second-to-last scene in the film was right there in all of the trailers. other films, like Rogue One and Avengers: Infinity war included fake scenes in the trailer so as not to spoil things. and I’m not sure which approach is better.
At least we get Starro.
The suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
What do you think? Do you care when marketing spoils the movie or are you upset when trailers include fake scenes that don’t actually show up. sound off with your thoughts in the comments below, and feel free to include your theories about what members of the The suicide Squad are killed and how! (Also, if you think I’m reading this one wrong, I beg you all to convince me of it!)
