Who Is Weasel? A look At The suicide Squad Characters
August 30, 2022The suicide Squad trailer dropped earlier this year and the film is premiering in a little over a month, so fans all over are wishing to learn much more about some of the new characters that were introduced. We’re here to help! I’m continuing my series of messages taking a look at each of the new characters in The suicide Squad and in today’s post I’m going to investigate: who is Weasel?
Who Is Weasel and What Are His Powers?
Weasel (alias: John Monroe) was a loner who was teased while he was a student at Stanford. The other students called him “Weasel,” possibly because he beared resemblance to the furry creature. He eventually took this name to heart while he was a teacher at Vandemeer university in Pittsburgh due to much more belittlement from his colleagues by creating a costume complete with razor-sharp claws and teeth.
While this original Monroe never actually turned into an animal-like creature, he experiences somewhat of a placebo effect when he dons his Weasel costume: he somehow gains terrific speed and agility and is able to jump to dizzying heights and distances. He also has enhanced strength and is an outstanding hand-to-hand combatant. Lastly, his sharp claws enable him to climb practically any structure.

The beginnings Of Weasel

Weasel was created by Gerry Conway and Rafael Kayanan and first appeared in The Fury of Firestorm #35 (August 1985). He was stopped by Firestorm after the superhero handled a professorship role at Vandemeer university and Weasel tried to kill him. Eventually, he was recruited into the suicide Squad. On a mission to rescue Hawk, he tried to kill Thinker and ended up getting killed by Rick Flag Jr. instead. Spoilers for James Gunn’s The suicide Squad? guess we’ll have to see!
A couple of decades later, in Batman #666 (July 2007), a Future Weasel was introduced as an enemy to Damian Wayne, the new Batman following the death of Dick Grayson.
In September 2011, Weasel got another reboot thanks to DC’s The new 52. In this timeline, the supervillain is much more animalistic, which seems to be much more in line with what we’ve seen in The suicide Squad trailers. It will be interesting to see how things play out in the films because in the comics does seem to still have some human in him. similar to how King Shark is depicted as dumber in The suicide Squad, maybe Weasel will be getting similar treatment.
The suicide Squad debuts in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021
How strange do you think Weasel is actually going to be in The suicide Squad? let us know in the comments!
